Nightland

Hi everyone!

I've been busy creating a new story and have come up with designs and characters for it!
It's called Nightland. The story is still in progress but the summary has been laid out, i just need to fill in the gaps.

It's a complete change / challenge from the restaurant one cuz this is more wizardry fantasy-ish and not sci-fi which i typically like to do.

This story was created 5 years ago but it has not been touched for 4 years. Only recently, i decided to take the challenge and make this full scale. Did a lot of revisions to the story and characters.

It used to look like this:

I'm still keeping the winter scene but that red coat has to go lol.

There is also another story i'm developing currently and i will make that into sort of a weekly web comic. This is to make sure i do something useful with my life and to fulfill my long-time procrastination of finally doing web comics lol. The story is based on the lil boy and the robot, Marcus and Shilo, which can be found here: http://reggie-veggie.blogspot.ca/2014/03/skipping.html

I... just need to do it. And stop thinking of eating.

Ulivo animation!

Did a short animation for class and it'll most likely be screened in the grad show too.
Below the video are a couple of sketches of the main character featured, Ulivo.

Some background info on Ulivo:
It's a blending robot that churns the right combination of food to a proper dish quickly. However, he is prone to stress and fails more than he succeeds. He is mostly friendly to everyone but if he does not like you, he will ignore you.
Mickey, the pink poofy hair boy, is his best friend.

Skipping

Not in the mood to do thesis... again. So i did this instead lol. Featuring Shilo and lil' Marcus in the market. I just made their names up haha. But you can actually see Shilo's name on his body... can you spot it?
I'll be getting into school work starting from tomorrow!

Before i forget...

A group of friends and I went to  the 'This is not a toy' Exhibit in Design Exchange Toronto. It featured designer toys, the ones that you most likely need a ton of money to own one, or can never have it haha. It was super nostalgic! It reminded me of the toy conventions i went in Singapore. Oh good times~ I was really delighted to see many familiar toys and also got to know some that i've never seen before.

This was my favourite room and exhibit (beating my favourite tofu figs) lol.

Before I forget, here are some stuff i did in the summer of 2013! I think this will be the last time i'll post anything old lol.

Brothers

Did a quick image that's related to my short graphic novel i'm currently working on. It's about a pair of brothers, space and plants. I can only give out this much or else it's big spoilers lol.

Long time no see~~!

Hello!

How y'all doin'? It's been a long time! I moved to tumblr during the summer of 2013 so I kinda neglected this, but i think i'll be posting stuff more frequently here from now on. I'll try haha.

You can check out my tumblr here!

I never talked about my co-op, and that's what i'm going to talk about here!

I was with Julia Breckenreid and Steve Wilson at Nook and Willow Dawson at the RAID studios. At Nook,  I did some concept work like character and environment design for Steve's company Pyramid Attack. My friends (Katie Carey and Maria Nguyen) and I also did the window display at the front of the studio which lasted throughout the summer. We also assisted Julia and Sandra Dionisi with Nook events in the studio. The thing that I carried away with me was a bond with Julia and also the 'deep' talks about life after grad, and being a freelance illustrator. Socialize and work hard! xDD The whole socializing thing makes me go into panic mode everytime, because i'm pretty awkward around people. But it's such an important aspect in building a career. I also realized toronto's art community is really tight-knit. Everyone know everybody, it's crazy and awesome at the same time.

Talking about socializing, I met Tessar Lo and Ness Lee when me and my friends went to see Keita Morimoto's show opening and also Tessar's show today. Keita's work, although featuring 3 pieces, they were very good. His ability to capture light... wah! Tessar's was good too! It's the total opposite of Keita's.

Yup anyway, on to RAID.
Since doing graphic novels is my lifelong goal, RAID was THE co-op for me. Made friends with Willow and the guys there, so awesome. Me and 2 other friends who interned there as well helped Willow with her classes and conventions. Also we helped her with taxes LOL. I know something about that now haha. Also I learnt about publication and approaching pub houses, preparing portfolios and stuff like that. They also helped us with our thesis ideas, which was good.

Here are pics during co-op.

Stay tuned for thesis stuff!

Wall of Glory

Hello!

I can't believe it's already april and this week is the last week of school. It's the end of 3rd year! In a couple of weeks, I'll be starting my co-op! I hope to have an extremely awesome and fulfilling summer this year!
This year's grad show will be on my birthday (haha nice) and I can't wait to see what my seniors have done.

Till this friday, I still have a few things to rush and finish. There will be some more posts over the week once I've handed in everything. In the mean time, here are the wood panels that every one of the 3rd years are required to do to decorate the boring wall. I call it the Wall of Glory lol.

Omg so disgusting!

Hello!

Spring is coming! Yay! No more ice, snow and the slow and cautious walking because of the ice and slush!
I'm still hoping the temperature will warm up faster.

So the theme of last week's submission was 'Fraud', and I based it on the cardboard meat bun hoax in china many years ago.

Do you still want to eat that plate of breakfast? haha

Alrighty!

Hello everybahdee!

Previously i mentioned there was a comic coming up but... i hadn't had any time to do it lol. So forgive me for that.

Anyway, my portfolio site is up and running! Here!

Aaand a digital assignment for class.
I was watching the new Jdrama called "Dinner" and i thought a kitchen scene would be cool (and i didn't have any idea of what to do anyway lol). Dinner's fantastic, though the 'sudden-addition-of-a-sponteneous-guy-that-changes-lives' cliche is there, like in most jdramas. If you like character driven stories and italian restaurants, you guys should go check it out! It's still running and it airs every sunday!
